Movie review: Meet the Patels

Comical moments abound in Meet the Patels, a charming documentary about Ravi Patel, an almost-30-year-old Indian-American actor whose sister, Geeta, documented his journey to find an Indian-American bride, primarily through traditional Indian means – that is, his family’s match making efforts. Faced with mounting pressure to wed from his parents and other family members, Ravi seems trapped in an endless cycle of hope followed by disappointment as he travels all over North America to go on dates and attend Indian weddings and matrimonial conventions. Many viewers will enjoy this cringe-worthy but good-natured look at the weight of cultural expectations commonly experienced by second-generation Indian-Americans. Highly recommended.
