Walt Disney once said, “Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, and dreams are forever.” Try to imagine a world without Walt Disney, and you would surely picture a life with a little less magic, a little less happiness, and a little less hope. Walt Disney spoke about never growing up, believing in yourself, taking chances, and working hard to achieve your dreams. Despite receiving many hard knocks throughout life himself, Walt Disney continued to embody the whimsical traits he spoke of and demonstrated the level of perseverance and passion he believed so strongly in each time he pulled himself back up after having fallen. Who would have thought that one of the world’s greatest animators and entrepreneurs had, early in his career, been fired from a Kansas City newspaper for lacking creativity and good ideas? If Walt Disney had given up then — or even when his first company when bankrupt — there would be no Mickey Mouse or Disneyland or entertainment as we know it.
This December, join the Katharine Brush Library in celebrating Walt Disney’s birthday! If you stop into the library at some point over the next couple of weeks, you will be greeted by a first floor display consisting of a book of Mickey Mouse cartoon strips, several animated Disney DVDs, and QR Codes that link you to e-books about Walt Disney’s life. We also have a basket of special magnetic Disney bookmarks! Feel free to pick one up with your favorite Disney character — Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, or Donald Duck!
